Building resilient communities is a project that supports men, women, boys and girls in the West Bank and Gaza to be strong and empowered communities that collectively and effectively survive, adapt to and respond to the acute and chronic humanitarian crises that mark their everyday lives in Palestine.
The project is implemented by DCA/NCA, East Jerusalem YMCA, and MAAN Development Center and supported by, among others, Church of Sweden, PAX and Denmark. The global initiative Local2global Protection provides advise to both communities and the NGOs.
Building Resilient Communities project works on empowerment and resilience of three communities in the West Bank, and three in Gaza by focusing on their own social and human capital. We work jointly with the communities to improve their access to information and knowledge and provide them with tools to develop their own action plans and community initiatives that will help them to address risks, withstand shocks and act proactively for the collective interests of the community.
The journey of change that the community is passing through enhances its capacity, ownership of the initiatives, decision-making processes, accountability and advocacy. By the end of the project, each community has established its own Protection Group, which are empowered and supported to address their communities’ needs and contribute to the long-term resilience of their communities.
The Protection Groups will make use of their own skills and community resources to achieve these goals.
