News from Nepal
Main activities
DCA Nepal primarily works with three activities, that all focus on ways of helping people in most need through different interventions which are contextual as well as introduce to new technologies, fostering innovations to bring about changes to eradicate poverty in as many ways as possible.
Improving market functionality to support the most vulnerable
Through its projects, DCA Nepal is improving the market access of the most vulnerable communities in the country (single women, Dalits, persons with disability, senior citizens, and internally displaced people).
DCA works to build the capacity of local government for better service delivery to vulnerable groups, capacitating private sector service providers to improve reach and quality services to the vulnerable groups, capacitating the communities to upgrade their economic activities and improve access to off-farm employment.
In addition, DCA is also strengthening the capacity of local cooperatives to handle loan products and make use of digital platforms to access information on traders, suppliers, and other market actors.
Making the duty-bearers accountable
The duty-bearers are at the centre of DCA country programming – key among them are the government entities of Nepal.
DCA’s interventions focus on building the capacity of local government agencies on various aspects such as climate change, human rights instruments at national and international level, public audit, grievance handling and registration, and hearing the voice of the neediest populations as well as considering them in the annual plans and programmes.
Similarly, DCA has been promoting forums such as the Multistakeholder Platform, which improves interface between the citizens and government bodies and provides opportunities for wider range of stakeholders to voice their demand. DCA has also been supporting the government agencies in developing as well as implementing appropriate plans, policies and programmes that cater to the need of the citizens.
